Love Ridge is the perfect perch from which to explore the distinct scenes on both sides of the Blue Ridge Mountains, in Nelson County and the Shenandoah Valley. No matter what you prefer- from crisp ciders, light pilsners to smooth red wines there’s something that will satisfy your palate from our local wineries and breweries.

Nelson County has a distinct local flavor with its vibrant farms, vineyards and bustling farmers market. The area’s verdant valleys and hillsides are not only picturesque, but the fertile soils and temperate climate also make for the perfect place for growing grapes and producing world-class wines. Nowhere is the scene more palpable than along Nelson’s 151. With seven wineries, four breweries, three cideries and two distilleries to choose from the state-designated Virginia byway is a veritable choose your own adventure of craft drinkeries enhanced by the stunning views of the sunrise side of the Blue Ridge. With fresh air, an outdoor orientation and sweeping views, the establishments that dot 151 pair craft beverages with delicious local foods. Just as easy is a trip to the other side of the Blue Ridge to the traditional seat of Virginia agriculture, the Shenandoah Valley. From Love Ridge, descend the South River valley past Sherando Lake into Waynesboro where the experience is totally different. Start at Basic City Brewery, a modern twist on Waynesboro’s industrial roots. This sprawling enterprise in the historic Virginia Metal Crafters warehouse includes a brewery, farmhouse speakeasy and post-industrial music venue with the requisite long list of cocktails, Basic City Beers and wines from Virginia and beyond. If you need to stretch your legs before heading out of town stop at the South River Greenway. Check out the local scene of anglers, families and the mural art on this 2 mile trail before heading to Raphine to visit the Rockbridge Vineyard & Brewery. If you plan to visit Raphine, don’t miss Wade’s Mill, Virginia’s oldest operating commercial grist mill. On the weekends, the waterwheel and historic equipment run Saturdays and Sundays 10am-12pm, but opening hours run until 5pm for the shop which is a great place for souvenirs.

Many of our guests find that they don’t want to venture too far after landing at Love Ridge. You don’t have to leave your cabin to sample the best of the Blue Ridge, Love Ridge offers packages with wines made by Love Ridge friend Gabriele Rausse, “the Father of Virginia’s Vineyards”. For a simple pairing, try our Wine and Chocolate package with wine made with grapes grown at nearby Turk Mountain Vineyards and Virginia made chocolate.
