Virginia Family Trip for YOUNGER FAMILIES
Younger families will enjoy the freedom to play on our campus while easily accommodating nap times and meal schedules. Nothing raises your blood pressure like being in a restaurant with a screaming kid. Skip the stress and order a lasagna ahead from our online store to make dinner easy. Put them to bed early and enjoy a fire side hang with your significant other. Consider our stargazing package for an evening activity with the kids or post bedtime date night.
When and if you do go off the property you’ll find several kid-friendly establishments and activities. If you’re looking for an adventure during your Virginia family trip, a great family hike is the 3 mile out and back from Love Gap to the Maupin Field Shelter. This wide double track is perfect for hikers of all ages. Spend the morning at Spruce Creek Park’s nature inspired play area complete with mud kitchen and flowing stream. The Rockfish Valley Trails connect to Spruce Creek. They are flat and easy to hike and a great place to get out the ya yas before the Nelson County farmers market. In cooler seasons or wet weather, when the mountains are cold/foggy these trails are a lowland alternative to hiking in the mountains.
Parents of young children visiting in the summer should check out “Camp Wintergreen”. Just 12 minutes from Love Ridge, campers between the ages of 5-12 can enjoy an array of activities at Wintergreen Resort. Summer camp runs 8:30 to 4:00 Monday through Friday June-August.
LOVE RIDGE WITH TEENS
Parents of older kids might enjoy the challenge that nature can offer. If you want your kids to build their confidence during your Virginia family trip, let them try something new like exploring the bouldering opportunities along the Blue Ridge Parkway. Less than a mile from Love Ridge, Love Gap’s large Rock outcropping is a local favorite for bouldering and top rope climbs. Challenge yourselves to complete the Mau-Har and Three Ridges a strenuous but stunning 14 mile tour from rushing stream to high ridge.
Our Blue Ridge Parkway cabin rentals is a great place for teenagers to test their independence. Consider adding a campsite to your reservation and letting your teen bring a friend to camp out while you spend the night in a romantic cabin. If things get awkward, there are always games and TV.
