Explore the craft breweries of Love ridge

Love Ridge Mountain Lodging is the ideal launch point for visiting central Virginia’s renowned craft beer country.  The Brew Ridge Trail, Virginia’s original beer trail, meanders down either side of the Blue Ridge where you will find a variety of breweries both large and small. The closest brewery, Devil’s Backbone, is only 10 minutes from our mountain cabins rentals, and is ideal for an afternoon of high quality delicious brews paired with pub foods.

Devils Backbone, 35 Crandall Run, Roseland, VA 22967

A sprawling operation, with both indoor and outdoor seating almost guarantees a spot but this place is popular and for good reason. Recently they’ve added a distillery where you can taste spirits and sip cocktails and the outdoor fire pits extend the season for outdoor seating so you can enjoy more mountain air. Devil’s Backbone is a good start or finish to an afternoon of exploring Nelson 151 which boasts countless breweries, wineries, distilleries, and cideries.

Basic City Brewery beer and sandwiches

Heading West from Love Ridge you find yourself smack dab in the middle of the Shenandoah Beerwerks Trail and seeking out a brewery can be a great way to introduce yourself to the nearby towns of Waynesboro and Staunton.  Waynesboro has reinvented itself recently following the departure of Dupont and the rehabilitation of their riverfront.

Do not miss Basic City if you’re into laid back vibes, quality beer & food and a great live music schedule.  Basic City occupies an old warehouse and is both dog & kid friendly.  It’s a great place to catch a big game or play some fun arcade games while enjoying all types of beer to suit your team’s needs.

Blue Mountain Brewery, 9519 Critzer Shop Rd, Afton, VA 22920

If your visit to Love Ridge includes a trip to Charlottesville to see the University of Virginia or Monticello then it can be a great plan to stop at a Nelson County brewery on the way back for dinner.  If you like mingling with a mix of locals and tourists and enjoy a great view one could do much worse than dinner at Blue Mountain Brewery. Their pizza and sandwiches are top notch and the beer is delicious. It’s also one of the oldest breweries in the area and has the service game down and brews their beer from the hops grown on the property.
